Sunflower Tale

 

 

Once upon a time, there lived a beautiful mortal woman named Leucothea. She was deeply in love with the Sun God, Apollo.

Clytia, Leucothea’s sister became enraged with jealously of Apollo and Leucothea’s love and told their father.  After learning of the relationship, their father ordered Leucothea be buried alive! Apollo became so angry with Cylia, he turned her in to a sunflower, which follows the sun everyday.

 

Lily Tale

 

Roman legend has it that when the goddess Venus rose from the sea-foam she saw a lily and became filled with jealous envy at the enchanting beauty of the flower. Seeing it as a rival to her own beauty she caused a huge and monstrous pistil to spring from the lily's snow-white center.

 

Hydrangea Tale

 

According to a Japanese legend, a proud emperor used a bouquet of hydrangeas as an apology to the family of a girl with whom he was in love. Ever after, the flowers have served as a representation of heartfelt feelings, whether of joy or sadness.
